Session-3

Topic: Bare Metal Tuning of SQL server

Kelvin Kline

Is a Technical Strategy Manager, SQL server solutions and a SQL server MVP working with Quest Software. He is also the President of PASS.

Major presentation was revolving around Methodology, CPU’s, Memory, Workload profile consideration, Disk I/O, virtualization,    ….on how they can be used better, Pros and Cons of each category, bench marking tests on  each of the category and up to what extent it can be beneficiary…over all an interesting session, specially for DBA’s.

For virtualization, suggested, avoid MS Virtual server and lower versions of VMWare, suggested VMWare ESX for virtualization as  is low overhead as far as memory and overall performance is concerned.
